How the strategy works
At its core are momentum and trend following, with a small share of mean reversion. The strategy earns from the continuation of strong market moves: it takes small losses more often, while profit comes from large moves.
Logic
The strategy looks for volatility spikes and enters when a move is confirmed by volume. Positions can be opened both long and short, in perpetual futures on major exchanges.
The algorithm captures a short impulse within a few hours, and in a strong trend it holds the position longer: a trade usually lasts from a few hours to a couple of days, the longest ones more than a week.
The loss on each trade is limited by a stop-loss, and the algorithm lets profitable positions run. That is why the strategy has slightly more losing days than profitable ones, but the losing days are smaller.
Risk control
- Each position’s stop-loss is set at entry based on the instrument’s volatility and is not moved afterwards.
- The algorithm does not average down a losing position. In normal mode, the risk per trade is the same, and exposure and the number of positions in one direction are limited.
- In a drawdown, the risk per trade is reduced automatically, and in a deeper one new entries are paused: the capital is protected by thresholds set in advance.
- In unusual market conditions, new entries are paused automatically.
What to know
The strategy is volatile, and that is part of the approach: it is important to accept drawdowns and losing periods calmly.
- Returns come from large market moves, so they arrive unevenly: the strategy does not promise daily income, and the result builds up over time.
- Every day of results is open: the historical data shows what swings to expect.
- The capital stays in your own exchange account: you see every trade, and only you can withdraw funds.
